Massage for baby
Do you rub a bumped knee or elbow when your little one falls over?
Baby massage classes help to broaden your scope of movements and increase your confidence in using baby massage with your baby. It's also a great chance to meet other new mums and socialise. I teach a routine for the whole body to give you lots of options when massaging your baby but it isn't necessary to set aside a whole hour everyday, baby massage can fit into even the busiest of routines and in fact is of just as much if not more value if you don't get much time alone with your little one as it makes the time you have so special! Whether you just use the scalp movements in the bath when you're washing their hair, or use the tummy movements to ease colic each, small bit of massage has it's own unique benefits even in small doses. BenefitsBaby massage is not just an enjoyable way for you to spend time with your baby, it is widely acknowledged to have many far reaching benefits for you both. These benefits include:
OilsI will provide you with a 50ml bottle of massage oil at the beginning of your first class. The oil I provide is organic cold-pressed sunflower oil as this is lovely and soft on your baby's skin without being greasy and it doesn't matter if baby has a nibble of their hand as the oil is edible and so does no harm. I can refill your bottle at subsequent classes if you need to for a small charge to cover the cost but you can use organic sunflower/olive/vitamin E oil from health food shops or fractionated coconut oil which you can find in some supermarkets. One of the websites included on my 'links' page has baby massage oil for sale. I would not recommend using 'baby oil' as these are often derived from mineral oils (like petrol) and so it isn't great if baby ingests any. Also they tend to be heavily fragranced which isn't good for baby's skin and the smell for the baby can be quite over powering when it is all over their body. Think about us ... would you be happy for someone to massage you with a heavily scented oil if you didn't like the smell? You can buy baby massage oils which contain aromatherapy oils, I do not provide this as there is no evidence to prove that a baby's liver and system generally can properly cope with aromatherapy oils safely, so although there is also no evidence that they do any harm I would prefer not to recommend them until there is research to prove the safety.
